Hamm Mia is one person I need to dedicate a long page to. She has made her mark in the history of Womens Football and she is still young, beautiful and married. It just goes to show that not all female footballers are lesbians and women actually play football for the love of it and not to demonstrate whatever their sexuality may be contrary to what a vast majority of the public perception is at present.
Her records of achievements are long and great so I better start straight away highlighting them.

The Mia Hamm Foundation can be located on the worldwide web at www.miafoundation.org which is an organization she setup to support sports people with bone marrow health issues. You can check out her website to find out more information.

There is still much more to write about this woman but I will save it for my later articles, what I can say is that every country has a football icon. Mia Hamm is that female football icon for America.

Last of all this an extract written by one of her fans(Lauren-USA) on the myhero.com website

SPORTS HERO:
MIA HAMM

by Lauren from USA

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Who is my hero?” My hero is Mia Hamm. Mia Hamm was born in Selma, Alabama, on March 17, 1972. She played for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team. Mia now lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with her husband, Nomar Garciapara. She said, “I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.”

Mia Hamm has been my hero ever since I was in first grade. I started giving up and getting annoyed at myself every time I would miss a goal. My hero is Mia Hamm because she doesn’t give up and that is why every girl looks up to her!

Mia has a lot of role models. The biggest influence in life was her brother, Garett, who died from a rare bone marrow disease. She started the Mia Hamm Foundation for Garett and people with bone marrow disease. Ten percent of the cost of every 1999 Women’s World Cup ticket bought with a Master Card was donated to the Mia Hamm Foundation.

Mia holds the all-time scoring record for men and for women. She carried the torch for her last ever Olympics in 2004. She is a Goodwill Games Gold Medalist, National Player of the Year, Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist, and U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
